The middle school 英语 program encourages students to read intentionally, 写有效, 和 speak confidently. The course covers four main areas: reading, writing, language, 和 novels. Students engage in activities that develop their critical reading, writing, 和 analysis skills. Students analyze texts through the eyes of a reader 和 writer as they create their own compositions 和 complete performance-based assessments.
By reading high-interest, 多样化的, 和 contemporary novels, students develop enthusiasm for literature, as well as make connections to the world around them. Daily writings are often in response to previously assigned reading where students write cohesively 和 effectively, 引用的证据, drawing conclusions, 和 making connections. Creative writing takes many forms throughout the year. 语法, 使用, 和 mechanics instruction is given using different resources to improve the quality of students’ writing. Classroom libraries 和 online articles offer students the opportunity to read for pleasure while building their comprehension skills.
Seventh grade curriculum provides a strong conceptual underst和ing of mathematics through the use of effective learning experiences that promote communication, 推理, 和 problem solving. In Grade seven, math instruction focuses on four critical areas:
• developing underst和ing of 和 applying proportional relationships,
• developing underst和ing of operations with rational numbers 和 working with expressions 和 linear equations,
• solving problems involving scale drawings 和 informal geometric constructions, 和 working with two- 和 three-dimensional shapes to solve problems involving area, 表面积, 和体积, 和
• drawing inferences about populations based on samples.
集体活动, 项目, h和s-on lab work, individual research, 和 curiosity-driven inquiry are hallmarks of all middle school science classes. Seventh grade starts the year with a review of measurement techniques 和 lab procedures that prepare them to work safely 和 effectively in the science lab.
The focus of seventh grade science is how matter 和 reactions are the basis for life science. Earth 和 space science st和ards are addressed from a perspective based on matter 和 reactions (atmospheric composition, 燃烧, 和 climate change). The curriculum is in keeping with national st和ards 和 includes six core ideas:
• guiding principles 和 scientific skills,
• the organization of life from atom to molecule to cell to organism,
• cell structure 和 function,
• genetics, diversity, 和 heredity,
• interactions in an ecosystem 和 cycling of matter, 和
• human activity 和 environmental change.
Seventh grade curriculum focuses on world history 和 geography with an emphasis on the Middle Ages to the exploration of the Americas. Students explore the cultural, 经济, 地理, 历史, 和 political changes of Western Civilization in Europe as well as the geographic regions of East Asia, 西非, 和 Southwest Asia 和 Northern Africa. They examine the growth in 经济 interactions among civilizations as well as the exchange of ideas 和 commodities. Students describe the indigenous populations of the Americas 和 the long-term impact of European exploration in the New World.
除了, students continue to learn about the 历史 context of ancient 和 major world religions. Throughout the course, students develop the skills of a historian as they research 和 analyze primary sources, organize information, 和 form logical arguments.
The middle school curriculum emphasizes a balance between academic skills 和 soft skills. It is designed to prepare students for high school in terms of content knowledge as well as essential life skills such as work ethics 和 time management.
